Types of Pretas or Ghost

Pretas, the word derived from the Sanskrit language, which amongst the ancient language of the world originated in India.. Those supernatural beings illustrated in Buddhism, Daoism, Hinduism and Chinese folk religion. But their initial roots originated in Indian religions and then adopted into other East Asian religions. The whole “preta” concept was started with the belief that it was a ghost & spirit of a folk after death. The deceased’s family should performed some assortment of rituals and offerings for the spirit in order to enlighten the path to the afterlife or next life and if the family fails or willingly not done these funerary rites, the spirit stucked and suffering as a preta for the eternity. Here we discussed about the common known pretas in Indian religions.

Initially, I’m describing Ghosts of the female class. In my research about Pretas, I found female pretas more dangerous than male pretas.

Dakini

The extremely fierce, merciless female spirit often mentioned in Hinduism and esoteric / Tantric Buddhism. She eats dead and child in the crematorium. This ghost is also described from various names in several cultures of Japanese, Chinese, Manolians and Indians. The term is also used for living women having certain quantity of spiritual or demonically development.


Shakini

When an unmarried girl dies, she becomes Shakini, a sacred female spirit.


Jakhin

old woman turns around, her forces are not white and tied, whoever makes a relationship with her, she is the welfare of that person, so someone knows her by the name of “Balwant”. The ghost of a fortunate woman who died in pregnancy or menstruation is called Zakhin.


Lal or Lavsar

Those who die in menstruation state are called Lav. It is the widow’s ghost. It lives in a cloud of smog and this animal bothers the bird, dead is its food.


Satwai

Hadal

Very bad in nature, evil, takes beautiful form and traps a person. Their victims are mostly children, the woman who has a child and dies within ten days, she stays on top of the tree and hunts by wearing green clothes at night.

They do not bother many humans. when they desire, then they come out. They like eggs, tart, and jowar cold bread.


Khabiz

Laman, Muslim or Bhut of Mahar people are called Khabiz. They are 15 to 14 feet high. Unmarried men become angry after death, they are angry but when happy, they give the person what they want. They are white in color, their feet are inverted. They are more like shape shifter.


Brahmarakshas or Brahmabhuta

In the night or day, in the wilderness or under the peepal tree, take a bath. Do not bother anyone. If there is the blood of a Brahman then it becomes Brahmabhuta.


Betal

It is considered to be the king of ghosts, only when proven. It helps if you want to remove ghosts from someone’s body or to cure ghostly humans. All the devotees agree with this. They also have temples. They can also die in the dead. Vetala has two forms, one Rudra and one which fires. They live naked, this is their home. Vetal in Tamil Nadu is also known as Athyanar, Maldev in Durg, Penkatsu in Telangan.


Addition

The spirits of Muslims, Koli, Kharwa are called joints. It stands with one foot on one tree and the other foot on the other tree. It does not have a neck. The person falls ill when he goes under the tree on which he lives.


Giraha

Those who get blood by drowning in water or they become blood. They live in water. Calls a person going alone at night with a voice. At night, he calls the sailors who are taking the boat and calls them and drowns them in deep water. They are not very powerful, if someone breaks one of their heads, they become their slaves.


Munja

Brahmachari becomes a Munja when a young, handsome Brahmin or a Brahmachari dies. It lives on the Peepal tree and troubles the visitors. There is a bell on his waist, he bothered everyone by playing it.


Devachar

Married to pure death, whose fire is not performed properly, it becomes Devachar. All the ghosts of the village live under him. He likes the sacrifice of chicken or goat and it protects the entire village.


Pitru

These ghosts are small and live in herds. The Tantrik simply keeps them and they bother more.


Veer

Very brave, powerful, the master of all ghosts. The days rotate by night. It can take the form of anyone. Scares. Can enter anyone’s body. Can cause fire, can light a lamp. They are seen more on the new moon day. After catching a human, they go into their body and convince their desire. It is very difficult to identify them. They are air forms, so to capture them means to call our own death.


Asheva

Speaks through the nose is a terrible type of vampire.


Witch

This type of ghost has inverted legs.


Gol Biwani

Rows in the jungle with spices in hand.


Darya

They are very strong in shape and have horns on their heads, their claws are also very large.


Hamzad

can live with humans, they can be subdued, do not bother much.


There are many other types of ghost vampires, which we call Nalakhambha, Jind (Jinn), Kusthmanda, Mantri, Bhuchar, Khecher, Jalai, Jogni, Gavati, Madhuparvani, Maskhwani, and Nadhoba.
