For taking a screenshot on Mac follow the steps below:

  • In order to take a screenshot, go to the screen you want to capture, thereafter, press and hold Shift, Command, and 3 all at once. And you are done, that’s it.
  • If you need to edit the picture you will have to click the thumbnail you see in the corner of your screen.
  • The screenshot will be saved to your desktop, by default.

For capturing a portion of the screen follow the steps below:

  • Press and hold the Shift, Command, and 4 keys at the same time.
  • You will see the mouse crosshair, Drag it to choose the area of the screen that you intend to capture. To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging. 
  • Once you have selected the right area, release your mouse or trackpad button. 
  • You can cancel taking the screenshot via the Esc (Escape) key.

For capturing a window or menu observe the steps below:

  • Go to the window or menu that you intent to capture.
  • Press and hold Shift, Command, 4, and Space bar simultaneously. The pointer changes to a camera icon
  • Click the window or menu to capture it.
  • To keep out the window’s shadow from the screenshot, press and hold the Option key while you click.
  • For cancelling the screenshot, just press the Esc key.

Since the location is predefined in the software, the screenshots are saved on the desktop. You will see the name of the captured image as ”Screenshot [date] at [time].png.” The location of the saved screenshots can also be revised from the Options menu in the Screenshot app, in macOS Mojave, or later. The thumbnail can also be dragged to a folder for changing location or in a document.
