Summary
A reunion between two estranged sisters gets cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Evil Dead Rise Full Plot
Friends Teresa, Caleb and Jessica are vacationing at a lakeside cabin when an ill Jessica supposedly succumbs to a demonic entity, scalps Teresa with her bare hands, and decapitates Caleb using a drone before levitating in the air while a bleeding Teresa watches on.
One day earlier, Beth, a worker in the music industry, visits her sister, single mother Ellie in her apartment complex, along with her children Danny, Bridget and Kassie. When the three children run to get pizza, an earthquake suddenly hits the building and creates a massive hole in the parking lot. Danny investigates the hole, and discovers multiple religious artifacts, along with a record and a strange book that he takes up to his room.
Recordings on the record reveal the book to be the Book of the Dead, formerly researched by priests who were turned down by the church for doing so. As the priests read the incantations within the book, a demonic entity is unleashed, cutting the power to the entire building, and Ellie is viciously attacked in the elevator. Ellie returns to the apartment where she excessively vomits and collapses in front of Beth and the children.
Evil Dead Rise Review
Assuming her to be dead, Beth, alongside neighbors Gabriel and Mr. Fonda, lay Ellie to rest in her bedroom. She soon awakens, and now possessed by the demon, attacks the family. Beth and the children are able to lock her out of the apartment when she leaves to brutally murder their neighbors in the hallway, including Gabriel and Mr. Fonda. Following the rampage, Ellie tricks Kassie in to letting her back into the apartment.
She attacks her, and Danny takes Kassie to her room as Beth locks the demon back out. Black liquid soon begins oozing out of Bridget’s orifices, and Beth finds a possessed Bridget chewing glass in the kitchen before attacking her with a cheese grater. When she goes to attack Danny and Kassie, Kassie supposedly kills her, with Danny tying her body to the bed.
Danny informs Beth about the Book of the Dead, and she listens to the vinyl recordings as Bridget awakens and attacks Danny and Kassie. Bridget overpowers Danny, stabbing him in the chest, but not before Danny lights her on fire, supposedly killing her. Ellie escapes from the hallway through the vents, and attacks Beth in the bedroom as she listens to the recordings.
Evil Dead Rise Story
Kassie throws Beth a pair of scissors which she uses to subdue Ellie, before taking Kassie out into the hallway in an attempt to escape the building.
Ellie arrives, along with the now possessed bodies of Danny and Bridget, proclaiming that Beth and Kassie will be “dead by dawn”. The possessed corpses of the neighbors suddenly awaken, and combine with Ellie, Danny and Bridget to create a spider-like creature, while Beth and Kassie escape through the elevator which overflows with blood, resulting in the elevator falling to ground level and allowing them to escape into the parking lot.
Beth and Kassie attempt to escape, but Kassie is abducted by the creature before they can do so. The creature attempts to kill Kassie with a chainsaw but is interrupted by a returning Beth, who uses the chainsaw to force the creature into a massive wood chipper.
When Ellie’s decapitated head taunts Beth, she accepts that her sister is gone, kicking her head into the wood chipper, finally killing the creature, and escaping the building with Kassie. The next day, Jessica, revealed to have been living in the building, leaves for vacation, but discovers the bloodied wood chipper as an unseen demon moves rapidly through the parking lot, and attacks her as she screams in terror.
