Recently accused of Plagiarism. He has been accused of plagarising Marvin Gaye’s song ‘Let’s Get It On’ for his 2014 hit ‘Thinking Out Aloud’. In this article, we are going to discuss what happened and why Ed Sheeran is quitting music.

Kathryn Townsend Griffin, daughter of Ed Townsend, claims that Sheeran copied the iconic tune for ‘Thinking Out Loud’. The 2014 released single went to number one.

As per UK-based entertainment website Joe, Ms. Griffin claimed there are “striking similarities” between the two tracks as well as “overt common elements” that violate their copyright.

Not the exact recording but the two songs’ melodies, chord structures, and lyrics are all that are at issue in the complaint against Sheeran. In addition, he song’s bass line and distinctive opening guitar riff were also missing, along with other important elements. As a result, the case mostly revolves around the virtually identical chord progressions of the two songs.

Mr Townsend’s heirs are seeking $100 million in restitution.

The singer took to the New York courtroom this Tuesday and deny the allegations. He was called by the heirs of Ed Townsend, Gaye’s co-writer on the 1973 song. 

In his defense, he gave a very big statement “If that happens, I’m done, I’m stopping. I find it really insulting to devote my whole life to being a performer and a songwriter and have someone diminish it.” He also adds some more lines to his statement “I’d be an idiot to stand on a stage in front of 20,000 people and do that Most pop songs can fit over most pop songs … You could go from Let it Be to No Woman, No Cry and switch back,” referring to songs by the Beatles and Bob Marley.
