  • He has spent seven years with the corpse until the body was discovery by Helen’s relatives and authorities in 1940.
  • He was already married to Doris Schäfer (1889–1977) and had kids named Ayesha Tanzler, and Clarista Tanzler when he fell for Hoyos.
  • He was registered as Georg Karl Tänzler on his German marriage certificate. He was registered under the name Carl Tanzler von Cosel in his US citizenship papers, while his Florida death certificate had the name Carl Tanzler. Another name he was listed with is Count Carl Tanzler von Cosel or Karl Tänzler.
  • In 1940, he was arrested and detained. Further, he was charged with “wantonly and maliciously destroying a grave and removing a body without authorization.” After a preliminary hearing on October 9, 1940, at the Monroe County Courthouse in Key West, Tanzler was held to answer on the charge. The case was eventually dropped and he was released, as the statute of limitations for the crime had expired.
