In this era of people loving supernatural attractions with open arms, this place just fits the very idea of horror adventure. Not meant for faint-hearted people, it perhaps contains the greatest unsolved mysteries in its air. On the other hand, if one does take their courage in both hands they are invited to explore the enigma of this place.

Must-Know Things!

Most of the people from the local place believe that venturing into the fort after sunset is nothing short of an act of bravery as it is supposed to be a center for paranormal activity. Even the Archaeological Survey of India, therefore, has prohibited people from visiting the Bhangarh Fort at night.

Haunted History

Now when you are ready to experience cheap thrills, you must know the local folklore about this place! The most popular of these stories are of Emperor Madho Singh. Bhagwant Das and his son Madho Singh together are credited for building the fort in the 17th-century.

There are many stories of the destruction of Bhangarh but two stories are most popular among all. The first one is related to Guru Balu Nath. It is believed that it was built after the approval of Guru Balu Nath, an ascetic who used to meditate there. But before he gave the approval he mentioned a condition that the palace should never overshadow his area of meditation/house. He stated if it did, the whole land would have to suffer from his curse and would crumble into ruins. Unfortunately, they brought the nuisance upon themselves after failing to fulfill the condition. Having incurred the ascetic’s wrath, in a few moments the land turned into a cursed city. And till the day a roof could not be rebuilt in the city as no structures ever managed to survive in it.

Yet another most common and interesting folklore pertains to Princess Ratnavati. In that time, Tantrikas, sorcerer, sadhus, and astrologers were highly respected in Bhangarh. According to local sources, Rani Ratnavati of Maharaja Chhatar Singh was the daughter of Titarwada. She was a very beautiful lady of her time and a famous personality for her beauty but also proficient in the tantra-mantra disciplines.

It is said that a tantric named Singha heard about Bhangarh that Tantrikas are respected here, he reached here and started doing meditation on a hill. One day, he saw the Ratnavati and was fascinated by her beauty. He was well aware that it is impossible to reach the queen without using his tantric powers. Even after all this, he could not get the queen out of his mind. Eventually, he decided to subdue Rani Ratnavati by his tantric knowledge. He made small efforts several times, but could not succeed. Due to his constant failures, the desire to vanquish the queen was increasing in his mind to the extent of revenge. On the other hand, Singha did not even know a little about the fact that Rani Ratnavati is also very well versed in tantra learning. Not knowing this, the Tantric finally made a mistake, due to which he not only caused his death but also the destruction of Bhangarh.

What happened was that he played his last stake after many unsuccessful attempts to regain the queen. One day a maid of the queen was going to the palace from the market, the tantric gave her a bowl of oil with casting a spell on it so the Ratnavati will be tied to his captive mantra. He explains the maid that he was Tantrasiddha Baba, giving this oil to the queen and convincing her to use of this oil on her body, it will benefit her.

Arriving at the palace, the maid placed the bowl of oil in front of the queen and told the queen what had happened, and also told the tantric Baba’s phiz. The queen put her mantra on it to test the oil, the oil started to rotate, Ratnavati knew that the deadly mantra and tantra were used on this captivating oil. Rani understood that the tantric had sent this oil by the maid to tie her in his own Mohapash.

Rani’s anger was not limited and in the same anger, at the same time, she recited the Siddha Marak Mantra on the oil bowl and threw it on the hill. The oil blew as a rock with a terrifying voice and wreaked havoc and fell upon the tantric and Singha died there.

It is said that before dying, he cursed that all Bhangarh except temples will be destroyed and all the people will be killed. Many people from the villages around Bhangarh believe that due to the curse of the tantric, all the buildings including the fort became ruins, but nothing was disturbed temples. Some people believe that the souls of the people who died due to premature death from this curse still wander here and this is believed to be the reason for this place to be haunted and not settled again.
